NaDES-based biorefinery of Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis): A new path for sustainable high value-added metabolites

چکیده

To meet the criteria of modern extraction, it is essential to use solvents that simultaneously reach standards green chemistry and allow extraction a wide spectrum bio-compounds. Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NaDES), as solution, this difficult task represent satisfactory alternative organic solvents. Microalgae are recognized sustainable resource produce polar non-polar metabolites, such carotenoids, free fatty acids (FFA) phycobiliproteins. Among them, Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) one most studied, due its strong potential for food, health cosmetic. In work, two biorefinery scenarios were investigated using NaDES. The first combination polar/non-polar sequential solid/liquid together with liquid–liquid extract. second scenario implements an innovative triphasic solid/liquid/liquid approach, based on simultaneous NaDES in step. Several screened study identify best pair. According results, approach allowed increase productivity by factor 4 chlorophylls FFA, 2 carotenoids. It was also interesting note phycocyanin-enriched fraction achieves much higher levels purity than corresponding single-phase both applied scenarios. These results pave way time microalgae entirely industrially credible.

High value pigment production from Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis cultured in seawater.

The prospects of utilizing pretreated seawater for the culture of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis was evaluated under laboratory conditions with three seawater media and a control: (1) Zarrouk media (freshwater-control) (2) seawater media SW 1 (3) seawater media SW2 and (4) seawater media SW 3. The relative performance of these media were investigated with respect to their biomass production,...

Role of pH on antioxidants production by Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis

Algae can tolerate a broad range of growing conditions but extreme conditions may lead to the generation of highly dangerous reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may cause the deterioration of cell metabolism and damage cellular components. The antioxidants produced by algae alleviate the harmful effects of ROS. While the enhancement of antioxidant production in blue green algae under stress ha...

Bioethanol Production by Carbohydrate-Enriched Biomass of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis

In the present study the potential of bioethanol production using carbohydrate-enriched biomass of the cyanobacterium Arthrospira platensis was studied. For the saccharification of the carbohydrate-enriched biomass, four acids (H2SO4, HNO3, HCl and H3PO4) were investigated. Each acid were used at four concentrations, 2.5 N, 1 N, 0.5 N and 0.25 N, and for each acid concentration the saccharifica...

Antioxidant effects of Spirulina platensis (Arthrospira platensis) on ‎cyclophosphamide-induced testicular injury in rats

Cyclophosphamide (CP) is known to reduce fertility. The protective effects of Spirulina plantesis (SP) against CP-induced testicular toxicity were investigated. Male Wistar rats were categorized into eight groups (n = 7). Four groups of rats were administered CP at a dose of 5 mg in 5 mL distilled water kg-1 per day orally. Two of these groups were received SP (500 and 1000 ...
